scaresthedaylights is the work of the Brooklyn musician Neil Lipuma. Neil is also the founder of White Shoe Records that released albums by such bands as The City and Horses (Philadephia), The Exeter Popes (Brooklyn), Water Fai (Osaka) and Twice As Bright (San Francisco). White Shoe released his debut album, Burn the Bed, in November 2009. scaresthedaylights began when Neil parted ways with a long-term girlfriend and suffered an early midlife crisis. He quit his job in insurance and began work as an assistant engineer at Sear Sound working with great talents like Richie Havens, The Killers, and Lykke Li/Bjorn Yttling. While his stint in the 'music business' did not last long, Neil felt inspired by this experience and began recording demos of his own work. scaresthedaylights is the product of an introspective man whose adolescence was drenched in the music of R.E.M. and The Smiths and whose adult life coincided with the onset of indie rock. scares uses this sensibility and influence to take on some very adult issues (divorce, unrequited love, midlife crisis, family matters) while maintaining the innocence and optimism of youth. Neil's distinctive lead vocal adds depth to the peculiar and seemingly simplistic sound of the arrangements. The lyrics are both poetic and thought provoking. In the Throes is the sophomore release from scaresthedaylights. The album was recorded and mixed by Aaron Nevezie at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, NY and co-produced by scarethehorses (scaresthedaylights + The City and Horses) and Aaron Nevezie in Winter 2010 and 2011. Katie Ender (The City and Horses, Twice As Bright) and Marc Cantone (The City and Horses) lend their indelible imprints. These 8 songs clock in just over 22 minutes. White Shoe Records will release the album on June 7, 2011.
