Popis - SEASONAL AFFAIR:
Two years after their most recent CD, Cruel Symmetry, Argos is about to release their brand new album A Seasonal Affair. Initially a pure studio band, they have since then developed into a full-fledged live act. Having played at the prestigious Summer's End Progressive Rock Festival in England in 2014 and the PPR-Festival in Rüsselsheim, Germany (2013), they were able to make clear to the respective audiences that their songs come across even more dynamic and powerful than on CD. Their latest release is their 4th studio album since 2009. The title of the album, A Seasonal Affair, is representative of most of the songs which often deal with the traces that time leaves in our lives as well as the traces that we might leave behind. To a great extent, it has become a predominantly dark, serious and reflective album. Certainly closer to the atmospheric gloom prog of the late Steven Wilson than to the playful retro prog of the 1970s. In spite of that, one will also find the typical Canterbury elements that have been a trademark of their music since the self-titled debut album from 2009 and the follow-up album Circles (2010). These ideas and sounds are clearly recognizable in the long track 'Not in this Picture' which clocks in at over 12 minutes. The album contains two bonus tracks. 'Killer' and 'Black Cat' are reworked, remastered versions of two songs from their first album that now feature Rico Floczak on guitar. An elaborate production helps to maintain the dynamics of the music by not using too much compression, so that the compositions get enough room to breathe and can thus come to life. The guest musicians featured on this record are The Tangent's Andy Tillison and Marek Arnold (Seven Steps to the Green Door, UPF, Toxic Smile) who don't need any introduction to a prog community. Thilo Brauss (Cirqles, Superdrama) contributes a synth solo - he has played in the live line-up of the band, too. The artwork is by the German photo artist Bernd Webler, whose graphic style perfectly encaptures the atmosphere of the songs and helps to make the album an outstanding audiovisual experience. 'Out of the darkness, stranded in time...' - this is Argos with the latest album. Enjoy!
