Living is the latest project of Federico Bertelli, one of the best and popular Italian harmonicist. We find sounds reminiscent of the colors and the warm atmosphere of Central and South America, from the Brazilian Choro Carioquinha (W. Acevedo) to Cuban bolero, Claudia (Chucho Valdes) and compositions of Bertelli as Living and Waiting. To underline the tender ballad 'Soul Eyes ' (Mal Waldron) and Funk In 'Deep Freeze' (Hank Mobley), a tribute to the strict discipline of bebop, the same strength it takes to dominate an extremely difficult instrument like the chromatic harmonica.
Federico Bertelli, does not seem to have fatigued by this difficulty and proves to have arrived long time ago at that fateful point coveted by all improvisers: the one in which the melody is naturally formed by the thought and expresses itself by the instrument with the immediacy of singing. Bertelli has an attention to detail that only the great musicians are able to get and the extraordinary intensity that denotes generosity and depth.
There are many important guests who demonstrate through their participation the estimate that Federico encounters between the insiders who made themselves available to the artist to embellish the overall design all turned to the singing, the melody and the music: the fine arrangements of pianist Piergiorgio Pirro, the round and warm sound of the doublebass by Gabriele Evangelista, the discreet and refined rhythmic of the drummer Stefano Tamborrino. Noteworthy also the flutist Nicola Stilo and the 'solo', in the songs, (Funk in Deep Freeze, Waiting) of the trombonist Roberto Rossi.
