Popis - THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC:
A London critic describes Deborah Boily's new show and CD 'Thank You for the Music' in this manner: ' Deborah Boily's eclectic but exemplary taste means that she has the repertoire, but it is her talent and experience that means she has the reach. She has an effortlessly floating voice that cuts to the meaning of the song. But most of all, it is her gorgeous respect and palpable love of this material that communicates itself so vivaciously in the same way. Standards, she tells us, are songs that stand the test of time and you want to hear again and again. While some of her choices are not yet standards in the longevity stakes, to hear her interpret them is to secure their admittance to this inner song circle; and she's certainly a singer I'd like to hear again and again. ' Mark Shenton, The Stage, London This new CD by actress/singer Deborah Boily is a 'live' recording of highlights from her one-woman Cabaret show. On this new release, Musical Director and show co-writer, Michael Jones, is heard on piano and on a few vocals. The show's premise is to honor composers from all decades. There are old standards and those that Deborah believes will be standards of the future. The show celebrates such composers as the Gershwins, Harold Arlen, Jacques Brel, Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Michael Leonard, Willy Nelson, The Beatles, Abba, as well as newer composers like John Bucchino, Jason Robert Brown and Brian Lasser. There is a bit of folk/country in the medley of 'Crazy/Austin' and a jazz rendition of 'Not Exactly Paris' and 'The Man I Love' medley. In the French Medley Debbie reveals that many standards come from other countries. Frank Sinatra's hit 'My Way' is revealed to be a French popular song from the 60's and Deborah's translation of the true story from the French to English is a highlight of this show. There are moments of fun when Deborah does a parady of Edith Piaf's 'No Regrets' and in the 'Stilly Standards', a medley of some of the 'profound and deep' songs to come from that time. When she performs Anna Russell's hilarious 'Miserable', guest pianist Jerome Kaslin really gets his teeth into a bit of blues and just listen to the audience's reaction!! Deborah Boily tells us that the newer songs being written today are the ones she loves the most and this is evident in especially moving renditions of 'Unexpressed' and 'Stars and the Moon'. Boily's previous CDs are 'The Song Remembers When' recorded in London in l997 and 'The French Collection' recorded in 2000. Both are available with CDBaby.com.
