Leon Thomas capitalised on the success of his first album by working in front of a far bigger band for this, his second. The musicians included the cream of New York session musicians: Billy Cobham, Roy Haynes, Billy Harper, Ernie Royal and Jerome Richardson. Its centrepiece was the side-long Pharoah's Tune (The Journey), which is a spiritual jazz tour de force and the whole album demonstrates Thomas versatility as a vocalist.
One of four fabulous studio albums Thomas recorded for Flying Dutchman, this is the first time "The Leon Thomas Album" has been reissued in full. Thomas, who died in 1999, was an original jazz voice who has been a clear influence on many who followed him, including the current name to drop Gregory Porter.
