Popis - QUANTUM LEAP:
MATT SAVAGE TRIO Where genius and joy take a quantum leap “What I love about jazz is that you can break all the rules and be free,” states Matt Savage, the 14-year-old prodigy pianist and songwriter of The Matt Savage Trio. The Matt Savage Trio — also featuring accomplished adult musicians John Funkhouser (bass) and Steve Silverstein (drums)— has taken that freedom to new heights with its fifth album, 'Quantum Leap.' It is also The Trio’s first album with international distribution. Proclaimed “the future of JAZZ,” by Jimmy Heath, Matt was just 6 1/2 when his musical journey began. At that time, he taught himself to read music and began studies in classical piano. He switched to jazz after discovering Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Miles Davis, releasing two solo jazz piano albums prior to forming The Trio. This was especially remarkable, considering Matt was diagnosed at age three with autism. Jazz great Bobby Watson praises, “Besides being an extremely gifted pianist and improviser, Matt has the musical instincts of a person many years older.” True to that statement, from Birdland to Blue Note and New Orleans Jazz Festival to Kennedy Center, Matt hasn’t been just jammin’ with the greats, he has been using those instincts to amass an impressive body of original work. Heralded by Dave Brubeck as “Amazing” and “Another Mozart,” Matt studied for three years at the New England Conservatory of Music, and in 2000 became the youngest child to perform at the NEPTA “Gifted and Talented” recitals. He since became the youngest person to be signed for the prestigious artist endorsement by Bösendorfer pianos in its 178-year history. The Trio’s leader has already received numerous awards including ASCAP’s 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 “Young Jazz Composer” awards. Matt has appeared on numerous television shows including NBC’s “Today Show,” ABC’s “20/20” and “The View” and the Discovery Channel. He has been featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” been the subject of countless documentaries around the globe, as well as featured in such publications as Time, People, Jazziz and JazzTimes. The Trio’s music can be heard on radio stations worldwide. Making a Quantum Leap with Matt’s unique improvisational jazz styling, this Matt Savage Trio album is a pivotal chapter from one of the great stories in the current age of jazz!
