Popis - IN GOOD HANDS:
Bruce Robinson is a singer/songwriter and former Major League Baseball player with the New York Yankees and Oakland A’s. Bruce splits time between homes in Idaho and California. He began writing songs in 2008 and wrote 26 of the 33 songs on this double CD in the past 10 months. Enjoy the lyrics in the song booklet while listening to his newest CD, IN GOOD HANDS, a collection of lyrically articulated country, blues, jazz, rock and ballad originals. A native of La Jolla, California, Bruce was shaped by the music of the 1960’s. At the prodding of classmates, he became part of a band in the 6th grade. He sang and played bass. The band played a few gigs at school carnivals and churches before Bruce dropped out due to his commitment to his goal of reaching the Major Leagues. Following his junior year at Stanford University, Bruce was the 1st round draft selection of the Oakland A’s. After a successful major league debut with Oakland in 1978, his contract was purchased by the New York Yankees the following spring. Bruce's career was derailed by an automobile accident caused by a drunken driver while playing for the New York Yankees in 1980. Missing two seasons following surgery, he attempted a comeback but never returned to the majors. Bruce was a player-coach for an Oakland A’s minor league team in 1984. He was the batting coach to future, and controversial, power hitting stars, Mark McGwire and José Canseco. Retiring from the game after the 1984 season, Bruce went on to a successful business career in Silicon Valley and San Diego. Bruce Robinson's lasting legacy on the game of baseball will be his invention of the 'Robby Pad' in 1980. The 'Robby Pad', a hinged flap on the right/throwing shoulder of a catcher's chest protector, began seeing widespread use in the mid-1980s and has become a part of the game from youth leagues to the Major Leagues. One of the original two 'Robby Pads' resides in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Not many baseball players can claim an affiliation with the Baseball Hall of Fame. Only one former Major League player can claim an affiliation with the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That person is Bruce Robinson. On August 24, 2012, Bruce performed 24 original songs with his guitar and ukulele, as a solo act, on the main stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
