Popis - WHAT'S TO COME:
The Highlife Band is an authentic and unique reggae band from Seattle, Washington. Rhythms from the Spanish and French Caribbean are combined with Jamaican rockers, bif-baf, steppers, one-drop, and dancehall reggae traditions. The lyrics are direct, and sing of love and conscious direction in everyday life. Live performances are power-packed and the performers animated and engaging. Playing over 40 shows last year around Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Northern California, the band now has an official music video, 4 live in-studio radio performances, and two albums under its belt: the self-titled debut, The Highlife, (2011) followed by What’s To Come, (2013). The Highlife band was formed in February, 2010 with lead vocalist and guitarist Daniel Miller, drummer Jonny Miller, and bassist Dylan Hughes. The three musicians shared a love of syncopated Caribbean rhythms, improvisation, and melodic vocal lines. Later that year, Randy Reed joined the group, a skilled percussionist who had played professionally with Daniel for a number of years in the rock-reggae group, Nuffsed. In 2011, Jonny left the band to pursue other projects in Paris, and was replaced by Rasmichael Monroe. Around the same time a horn section was added, including trumpeter Tschaui and trombonist Brandon Hunter, both of whom were involved in a number of world music projects. Shortly afterwards, the addition of keyboardist Brian Woolford completed the sound. He and Daniel had worked together in The Jazz Underground, a Seattle area big band. After recording their second album in Dave Matthews' favorite Seattle studio, Electrokitty, the band added their two final members, Tasha and Minami. These two soulful singers completed The Highlife's vocal trinity, allowing for complete harmonies alongside the melody in their tunes. With the momentum building, The Highlife Band is creating a strong movement in the world music scene. “We just want to take every opportunity to get this music out there, to share our love for the people through these songs. That’s what’s up!” says Daniel. Whether you like to relax and lay low, or dance and skunk till the end of the show, The Highlife Band will take you there.
